Mr. Ralph A. Johnson, 62 of Gloucester, passed away on Monday, April 17 at Beverly Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Diana DiMarco- Johnson whom he shared 26 years of marriage.

Ralph was born on August 6, 1954 in Leominster, MA. He was the son of the late Reino and Margaret (McLaughlin) Johnson. He was a resident of Leominster, MA and then moved to Gloucester where he worked and lived for the past 14 years. Ralph graduated from Leominster High School and Salem State College. He also attended Boston University to work on his Master's in Social Work as well as Cornell University where he became certified in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention. He would come to be a trainer in helping others to learn intervention crisis techniques and support.

Ralph enjoyed being with his family. He took great pleasure in the simple joys like walking his dog. Ralph especially loved his work. He was deeply passionate about helping others who were in crisis or struggled in their daily lives. He was an activist, an advocate and a leader in solving problems and fighting for the homeless and all that they struggle with.

Ralph's life work lead him to many roles where he helped change lives. Among some were his work with the Robert F. Kennedy Action Corps where he coordinated Outreach for the Department of Youth Services. He was the Director for Adolescent Substance Abuse at Eastern Middlesex Human Services. He worked with youth at the Northeastern Family Institute. He also spent time at The Home for Little Wanderers. In 2001, Ralph came to Gloucester as the Director of Affordable Housing for Action, Inc. and spent 13 years in this role. His last professional role was for Independent Resources, Inc. where he consulted services for affordable housing. Ralph's passion and commitment to those in need never wavered and that effort changed and helped many people who struggled.

In addition to Diana, his dedicated wife, Ralph is also survived by his son Christopher DiMarco of Gloucester and his daughter Dahlia DiMarco Johnson of Gloucester, a waitress at Eastern Point Yacht Club and a Senior at Salem University where she is studying Human Resources. He is survived by two brothers as well, Edward Johnson of Leominster and Robert Johnson of Scarborough, Maine. Ralph also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Ralph's Memorial Visitation will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St. Gloucester on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 4-6 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
