Obituary for Mary-Jane (Wagner) Green

June 14, 1926 - January 3, 2018
Gloucester, Massachusetts | Age 91

Mary-Jane (Wagner) Green of Gloucester died on January 3, 2018. She is
survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert M. Green, her partner in a beautiful odyssey through life.

She leaves behind three daughters, Susan E. Green of New York City, Margi Green and Sarah Green, both of Gloucester. Mary-Jane was predeceased by her son Robby, who died
in 1972.

Robby's death led her to become a pioneer in the hospice care movement. She was a founder of Hospice North Shore in 1978, for which she received a citation from the Massachusetts Senate in 1982.

Born in Belmont, MA in 1926, she graduated from Emmanuel College in 1947.
After marrying Robert in 1950, she worked as a public school teacher in Warwick RI as well as Northboro, Nantucket, and Foxboro MA before moving to Cape Ann in 1966.

She received a Masters in Education from Lesley College in 1978, and subsequently became a psychotherapist. She was in private practice for many years, using a unique approach integrating astrology with psychotherapy. Curious to explore other parts of the country, she and Robert left Rockport to live in New Mexico, Washington and
Colorado before returning to settle in Gloucester.

A woman of high intelligence, she was a religious explorer and seeker, travelling to ashrams in India in her ongoing pursuit of life's meaning. She was a voracious reader, talented seamstress for her children, antiwar activist, and lover of flowers, especially orchids. Among her many gifts, she had a lovely singing voice, which she shared in choirs, musicals, and around the piano bar at The Studio on Rocky Neck.

There will be a private service at a later date. Gifts in her memory may
be made to Care Dimensions (formerly Hospice North Shore).
