Obituary

Mrs. Marjorie L. (Doucette) DeCoste, 102, of Gloucester passed away on Monday morning, September 25, 2017 in Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a decline in health. She was the beloved wife of the late Leonard J. DeCoste formally of Arichat, Nova Scotia.

Marjorie was born March 20, 1915 in Gloucester. She is the daughter of the late Peter and Melvina (Ameriault) Doucette.

Marjorie loved shopping, taking trips in her car, going to Bingo and Foxwoods with her sister's, picking blueberries, watching and listening to the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots, going to see her relatives in Nova Scotia with her husband Leonard, but most of all she loved her family and Christmas. Marjorie would spend days/months preparing for Christmas, baking and buying gifts for her grandchildren and serving a big turkey dinner Christmas afternoon.

Margie was a homemaker married to a Gloucester Fisherman, raising three sons with a strong will and sometime heavy hand and a whole lot of love and understanding and proud of her accomplishments.

Later in life Margie took her baking skills to the Tavern and Gloucester House Restaurants preparing all of their breads, rolls, and desserts. Her grandkids love to visit her while she was working and get her special treats.

Margie was the devoted mother of Leonard D. DeCoste, Sr. and his wife Judith, Peter J. DeCoste, Sr. and his wife Roberta and the late Charles L. DeCoste, Sr. and his wife Barbara. Her sister's Shirley Lewis and Joan Lindberg. She is the grandmother to Carol Jackson and her husband Wayne, Charles L. DeCoste, Jr. and his wife Kimberly, Jeffrey DeCoste and his wife Julie, Pamela L'Italian and her husband Michael, L.David DeCoste, Jr. and his wife Caroline, Stephen P. DeCoste and his wife Pamela, Peter J. DeCoste, Jr., Suzanne O'Neil. She is also survived by her 15 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great Great grandchildren and godmother to Kenneth Jenkins and the many others nieces and nephews of the large extended family.

Margie was predeceased by her granddaughter Katherine Whittey and great granddaughter Megan Whittey, her brothers Jean Doucette and James W. Doucette, her sisters Catherine Blair, Jeanette Arabian, Rena Hildonen and Patricia Jenkins.

Marjorie's visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St. Gloucester on Friday morning September 29, 2017 from 8:30 AM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish in St. Ann's Church, Pleasant St. Gloucester at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers donations in Margie's memory may be made to the Friends of Seacoast 292 Washington St. Gloucester, MA 01930
