GLOUCESTER – Lois A. (Ingersoll) Dench, 89, of Gloucester, passed away after a long illness on Thursday morning, July 11, 2019 at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Dench Sr. Born in Gloucester, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Evelyn L. (Goodwin) Ingersoll. Lois was raised and educated in Gloucester and was a graduate of Gloucester High School, with the class of 1947. In 1949 she moved to Washington, DC and worked in the JAG Office at the Pentagon. She returned home in 1950 to marry the love of her life Richard and they shared 55 years of marriage until his passing in 2006.

Mrs. Dench had been employed as a bookkeeper locally for many years.

Lois' family was the light of her life, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed all the moments she shared with each one of them and will deeply be missed by her family. Lois enjoyed meeting up monthly for lunch with her thirteen high school girlfriends. Mrs. Dench was also a very talented seamstress. She enjoyed making handmade dolls at the Senior Center and homemade quilts for her family. She was also an active member of the First Baptist Church in Gloucester and served as the Assistant Treasurer for the church for many years. Lois was a devoted patron for over thirty-five years at the former Patio Restaurant in Magnolia. She truly enjoyed dinning there and frequented the restaurant so much, she became longtime friends with the owners.

Surviving her is one daughter, Lori Galante and her husband Sal of Gloucester; three grandchildren, Kelly Galante of Gloucester, Kris Gaggero of Bellingham, Washington and Christopher Dench of Maine; five great grandchildren, Emily, Connor and Ben Sandholm, Karina Galante and Taylor Grace Dench; her sister-in-law, Virginia Dench of Gloucester; her longtime friend, Carlie Davis of Gloucester; her faithful cat companion, JoJo and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Richard G. Dench Jr. and sister of the late Charles C. Ingersoll Jr.

Her Graveside Service will be held Beechbrook Cemetery, Essex Avenue, Gloucester on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 10 AM. Immediately following the graveside service Lois' Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 38 Gloucester Avenue, Gloucester on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lois' name may be made to the First Baptist Church, Gloucester or to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
