Obituary

Mrs. Grace E. (Clark) Vicari, 97, of Gloucester passed away on Friday February 2, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. She is the wife of the late Victor J. Vicari with whom she shared 64 years of a happy marriage.

Grace was born July 24, 1920 in Gloucester. She is the daughter of the late Harold Lucien and Nella Robinson (Wykes) Clark. Grace was a lifelong resident of Gloucester a graduate of Gloucester High School Class of 1937 where she received the Sawyer Medal for academic Excellence. She went on to further her education she attended Salem State University and went on to Burdette Secretarial School where she graduated in 1940.

She worked at the former Safe Deposit and Trust bank which was later the Cape Ann Bank and Trust as a Secretary for 22 years until her retirement in 1982.

Grace was an accomplished Marine painter of oils and water colors. She was a long time active member of the Northshore Art Association as well as the Rockport Art Association, the Art Advisory committee of the Sawyer Free Library, the Amvets Auxiliary, the Associated Charities of Gloucester. She was also a former member of the Bayview and Riverdale United Methodist Church which is the Gloucester United Methodist Church today. Grace also took many trips to Ireland and Monhegan Island in Maine where she would paint many beautiful scenes.

She is survived by her son Harold V. Vicari of Wilmington, Delaware, her daughter Carolyn V. Appelman and her husband Dudley of Sharon, MA.

Grace's Funeral Service will be in the Gloucester United Methodist Church, 436 Washington St. Gloucester on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In honoring with Grace's request there will be no visiting hours. Interment will be in Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville. In lieu of flowers donations in Grace's memory may be made to the Gloucester United Methodist Church.
