Mr. Donald J. Cloutman, 80, of Gloucester passed away on Thursday morning, January 5, 2017 following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Theresa (Kalinos) Cloutman with whom he shared 36 years of marriage.

Donald was born December 29, 1936 in Gloucester, son of the late Earl Cloutman and Esther (DeSouza) Lopes and the stepson of the late Frank Lopes. He was a resident of Gloucester growing up on "Portuguese Hill". He also lived in New Hampshire for 8 years until moving back to Gloucester.

He was a United States Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He held the rank of SP-4 and was involved with the Photography and Map Unit in Korea. He also successfully completed and was awarded a Certificate of Proficiency.

Don worked as a Meat Cutter for the former Cape Ann Market, Hooper's, Crosby's as well as Hannaford Supermarket for many years until his retirement. Throughout his life, he was known as an easy-going guy.

He was a member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church. In High School, he architecturally designed two homes in Essex as well as the original Destino's. Don enjoyed many things, especially fishing out of Gloucester Harbor, and at one time he had his own boat. He enjoyed driving up and down the New England coast and the change of seasons in North Conway with his wife. More recently, he enjoyed his weekly drives with his sister during his stay at Seacoast. His favorite place to stop was at Honeydew for his regular donut and coffee fix.

In addition to his dedicated wife Theresa, Don is survived by his two children Kimberly Ellis and her husband Michael of Gloucester, Stephen Cloutman and his wife Kelley of Hudson, MA, his two step children Sandra McGillivary and Peter Horne both of Gloucester, a devoted sister Sandra M. (Brigham) Cloutman of Essex, brother Robert Cloutman and his wife Gloria of Gloucester and a step brother Edward Lopes of Rockport, MA. He is also survived by six grandsons Chris, Benjamin, Joshua and Andrew Cloutman, and Joseph and Dillan Ellis, and was the step grandfather to Peter Horne, Jr. and James McGillivary and the late Heather McGillivary. Donald is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Donald's Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St. Gloucester on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 9:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald's memory may be made to the "National Parkinson Foundation".
