Obituary

Daisy Ruth (Catalini) Oliver, 90, of Gloucester passed away peacefully at home on March 12, 2018, after a brief battle with congestive heart failure, surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Maj. John G. Oliver Sr. (Retd).

She was born in Gloucester, on April 30, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Basil and Edna (Thomas) Catalini.

She was a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1945. She and John married on August 15, 1948. Daisy was a devoted military wife supporting her husband and his career. Her greatest joy was her lifelong commitment to her children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and especially proud of being a great great grandmother. In her youth she was an avid horseback rider. She relished her walks in Ravenswoods with John and her grandchildren in search of Gnomes and fairies. When she wasn't cooking or baking for her family she enjoyed playing cards, painting, or knitting. One of our fondest memories was her traditional family gatherings, especially her annual Christmas Eve party. Her family was everything to her.

She was the mother of Joan Oliver, and her husband Herbert Munroe, John Jr, and his wife Margaret Oliver, and Basil and his wife Diane Oliver all of Gloucester. She is also survived by her three sisters, Shirley Edmonds of Gloucester, Nancy Bateman of Salisbury, and Natalie Roeder of Nashua N.H. She was predeceased by her four sisters, Diane, Gloria, Marilyn, Judy, and her two brothers Basil and Bobby. She was also a grandmother to Tami Chadwick, William (BJ) Chadwick, Jon Derek Chadwick, Matthew and his wife Lia Romeo-Oliver, John Oliver III, Katie Oliver, Celestine Fontana, and Katelyn Scuderi. As well as a great grandmother to Jonathan and William Chadwick, Mikey and Derek Collins, Tyler Chadwick, AJ Romeo-Oliver, and Bianca Oliver. She was blessed to also have great great grandchildren, Jayden Chadwick, Julianna Chadwick, Anthony Collins, Arianna, Aubri-Ella, and the late Brock Chadwick. She was also an aunt to many nephews and nieces.

Daisy's Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Holy Family Parish in St. Ann's Church Porspect St. Gloucester at 10:00 am. She will be buried on Tuesday in a private ceremony at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne where her John was laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Daisy to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
