Charlotte E. (Burgess) Morris, 93, passed away in South Hamilton on Sunday afternoon, December 17, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Retired Gloucester Firefighter Richard E. Morris, Sr. who passed away July 31, 2004.

Born in Gloucester on October 27, 1924, she is the daughter of the late J. Henry and Gladys (Morgan) Burgess. Charlotte was a resident of Gloucester for 79 years. She and her husband moved to Virginia to live with her devoted daughter and son-in-law Cyndy and David Ribeiro. In September 2017 Charlotte moved to South Hamilton to live with her devoted son and daughter-in-law.

Upon graduating from Gloucester High School in 1942, she entered Cambridge City Hospital Nursing Program and graduated in February 1946 as a Registered Nurse. She joined the United States Nurses Cadet Corp in her senior year of training during WW II.

After graduating from Nursing School Charlotte worked for many years at Addison Gilbert Hospital. She worked in many different positions from private duty to staff Nurse to Night Nursing Supervisor. She later worked for the Gorton Group as an occupational nurse for several years until her retirement in 1986.

In addition to her daughter and son-in-law Cyndy and David Ribeiro, Charlotte is survived by her son Retired Gloucester Firefighter Richard "Rocky" Morris and his wife Paula of South Hamilton. Her four grandchildren David R. Ribeiro of Smithfield, VA, Dean A. Ribeiro and his wife Tina of Candia, NH, Bethany Morris and John Morris both of Gloucester who called every day since her move to Virginia. She is also survived by her twin great granddaughters Brook and Taylor Ribeiro of Candia, NH, her former daughter-in-law Susan Morris of Gloucester, her sister-in-law Judith Burgess and special friend Ivah White.

In addition to her parents and husband, Charlotte is pre-deceased by her two brothers Lincoln "Bud" Burgess and his wife Ingrid of Gloucester and Russell G. Burgess of Little River, SC, as well as her sister-in-law Eleanor Silva and her husband Edmund.

In keeping with Charlotte's wishes there will be no visiting hours. A private Graveside Service will be in Beech Grove Cemetery Rockport at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center c/o Beauty Shop 292 Washington St. Gloucester, MA 01930.
