Obituary for Catherine R. (Parisi) Genovese

December 26, 1940 - October 22, 2017
Gloucester, Massachusetts | Age 76

Mrs. Catherine R. (Parisi) Genovese, 76, of Gloucester passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, October 22, 2017 at Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the loving wife of the late Capt. Paul "Loggie" R. Genovese, Sr.

Catherine was born December 26, 1940 in Gloucester. She was the daughter of the late Captain Thomas and Grace Parisi. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of St Ann's High School.

Catherine worked for the Gloucester Public School system as a beloved cafeteria worker primarily at O'Maley Middle School and Gloucester High School for almost 30 years until her retirement in 2003. One of Catherine's passions was to feed people as she never wanted anyone to go hungry. She was known to give a little extra to those who needed it, and on more than one occasion personally paid for lunches for students who couldn't afford to pay for it themselves. This generosity lead to her being on the receiving end of many party invitations.

Catherine enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her weekly "club girls" get togethers. She enjoyed watching murder mysteries, listening to music, especially Lionel Richie, Elton John, Johnny Mathis, and all of The Rat Pack entertainers. She loved animals, especially her pet dogs; Tundra, Princess, and Maxie. In her later years, she cherished living with her son, Paul Jr., and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann, to help raise her youngest grandson, Paul III, and especially enjoyed their quiet time watching tv in bed together, snacking and talking about life. Catherine always reminisced about her younger years living down the Fort, her childhood memories with her brothers and sisters and the years of love and happiness with her husband Loggie. Christmas time was a special time for Catherine, she looked forward to spending the holidays at her mother's home with numerous family members and friends. She was very proud of her family and loved spending time with her brother, Nicky, and sister-in-law, Judy, visiting their son, Dr. Thomas Parisi, of Las Vegas and attending his wedding in Toronto, Ontario. She didn't grow-up knowing much about sports, but through her husband and son's love of hockey became quite the hockey mom/grandmother.

Catherine had a very open and loving heart. She was always there to listen, give advice and lend a hand when it was needed. She made friends everywhere she went, and will be missed by so many that loved her.

Catherine is survived by her loving children Paul R. Genovese, Jr. and his wife Mary Ann of Gloucester, Grace Cunningham and her husband William, Jr. of Gloucester and Joanne Scianimanico and her husband Frank of Sebastian, FL. She is also survived by her sisters Carol Cooney and her husband John Cooney of Gloucester and Geraldine Fitzgerald of Maine, her cherished grandchildren William Cunningham, III, Brian Cunningham, Andrew Favazza, Jeremy Favazza, Paul R. Genovese, III and her great grandson Parker Favazza.

She was predeceased by her brothers Dominic and Capt. Nicholas Parisi and her sister Mary Harting.

Catherine's visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St. Gloucester on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 4-7 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish in St. Ann's Church, Pleasant St. Gloucester on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
