Obituary for Betty Ann (Blanchflower) Henriques Schlepark

August 5, 1925 - December 16, 2017
Gloucester, Massachusetts | Age 92

Mrs. Betty Ann (Blanchflower) Henriques Schlepark, 92, of Gloucester passed away on Saturday evening, December 16, 2017 in Den Mar Health and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Marshall Schlepark.

Betty was born August 5, 1925 in Clinton, MA. She is the daughter of the late Richard and Helen (Clark) Blanchflower.

Although Betty was born in central Massachusetts, Gloucester was her adoptive home. She was a beloved fixture on Rocky Neck and regular customer of Sailor Stan's, The Studio and the Rudder. People who knew her well called her "Betty Boop". Betty had a varied and interesting professional life including hosting her own radio show, "The Betty Hayes Show", a promoter for the Whalom Theater Company, and various positions in the restaurant industry.

Betty was a lover of life, an avid reader, and a staunch democrat. She took pride in her personal style and was known for her outlandish hats. She had an encyclopedic mind when it came to movies and movie stars. In her later years her appreciation of nature grew; she loved to go on drives to look at trees she found particularly beautiful. Betty loved her family and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughters Leslie Begue and her husband Lalou of Leominster, Suzanne Xavier and her husband Robert of Gloucester and Cynthia McNamara and her husband Michael of Gloucester. Her grandchildren Sarah McCarthy, Matthew McCarthy and his wife Inga, Amelia Monday and her husband Nicolas and Maximillian McNamara. Three great grandsons, Prescott McCarthy, Eben McCarthy and Charles Monday. She is also survived by her sisters Dorothy Vivamore of Leominster and Nancy Kaine of Fitchburg, and her brother Robert Blanchflower of Leominster as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Betty was predeceased by her sister Virginia Yeager and brothers Richard and Donald Blanchflower, as well as her former husband Prescott Henriques

Betty's visitation will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St. Gloucester on Thursday evening, December 21, 2017 from 4-5 PM. Her Memorial Service will follow visitation.
